Lead Designer

I'm currently serving my team as a Lead Designer. When I joined the team we were working towards building a native app for a connected home experience for our members. The idea was to provide members a way to command and control smart home devices and give them a discount for having water leak sensors in place. For various reasons, including infosec and cost, our leadership made a decision to stop work on the app. We still plan to offer the discount, but our team is moving forward with other product development and innovation work streams. My role on the team is one that I find difficult to describe. My main goal is to create a space that allows the team to do their best work. Do I sometimes still open Sketch and crank out screens or put together a prototype in Invision? Yes. Do I sometimes conduct retros or planning sessions, yes. I am a manager? No. I do my best to act as a servant leader and offer advice when necessary all while keeping us moving forward. To steal some ideas from the old Agile Manifesto, I believe done is better than perfect and strive to get working software (or prototype, or keynote, or mission statement) out the door rather than iterating to death.

I started at USAA as a Sr Designer where I worked with my team to re-imagine the Homeowner's Insurance digital product. I helped implement Agile (Scrum) design sprints and improve processes as we progressed through the project. We also conducted Google Style Design Sprints to help us decide what to test and build. We tested and validated at every step of the way to keep our fingers on the pulse of our business partners.

Previously a Senior UX Designer at projekt202 where I worked with various clients on Enterprise level projects. I'm well versed in Agile methodology and user centered design and have a lot of experience communicating with the various members of a delivery team as well as stakeholders.

I've done freelance work in the past varying from illustrations to publication design. I enjoy identity system design as well as package design and excel at illustration.

Specialties: UX/Ui Design, Agile (Scrum and Kanban) Methodology, Illustration, Typography, Identity design.
